{"id":950,"date":"2022-01-10T20:01:22","date_gmt":"2022-01-10T19:01:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.centrastudies.org\/?p=950"},"modified":"2022-05-28T09:24:00","modified_gmt":"2022-05-28T07:24:00","slug":"cfp-workshop-anti-racisms-in-modern-and-contemporary-italy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.centrastudies.org\/?p=950","title":{"rendered":"CfP Workshop: Anti-Racisms in Modern and Contemporary Italy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Call for Papers<\/strong><br>1st&nbsp;Doctoral Workshop<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Genoa, 31 May&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;1 June 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>WORKSHOP FOCUS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This first doctoral workshop is thought of as a forum for PhD students and young post-doc researchers (until 2 years after their thesis defence) to present, receive feedback, and exchange comments on their ongoing research projects in the field of the&nbsp;<strong>history of anti-racism in 20th&nbsp;century Italy<\/strong>, with special attention to its different&nbsp;\u2014&nbsp;scientific, moral\/religious, political, juridical&nbsp;\u2014&nbsp;dimensions and manifestations in both intellectual debate and mass culture. Proposals may also suggest a cross-disciplinary approach, by considering the contribution of social sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every presentation will be discussed by an experienced researcher.<br>We particularly welcome papers that address the following issues&nbsp;\u2014&nbsp;especially through specific case studies, and a transnational perspective:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The reception\/construction of the term and category of anti-racism in the Italian context (including Italian colonies);<\/li><li>The imagery behind anti-racist discourse, with particular attention to the way anti-racist speakers\/actors have looked at race, racialisation and&nbsp;the \u201cracism of others\u201d (e.g.,&nbsp;segregation\/discrimination in the US, apartheid in South Africa, antisemitism in Europe);<\/li><li>The history of anti-racist movement (non-institutionalized organisations and institutionalized entities);<\/li><li>Global connections between Italian anti-racist movements and foreign movements;<\/li><li>The reception of anti-racist programmes by UN, EU and other international institutions;<\/li><li>Anti-racist rituals, festivals, and memorials;<\/li><li>The rise of scientific anti-racism and the way it has impacted general public;<\/li><li>Anti-racism and criminal law, that is the criticism of legal implications of race and the juridical debate about laws against racism and anti-discrimination acts;<\/li><li>Interactions between anti-racism and anti-fascism;<\/li><li>The relationship between anti-racism, anti-imperialism, Communism and post-colonial legacy;<\/li><li>Anti-racism and the public debate on migrations (refugees and foreign immigration);<\/li><li>Anti-racism in the labour market;<\/li><li>The intersection between anti-racist mobilisation and religious identities;<\/li><li>Anti-racism and \u2018race-religion constellation\u2019 (antisemitism and Islamophobia);<\/li><li>Anti-racism, political violence, non-violence;<\/li><li>Teaching anti-racism: school manuals,&nbsp;children\u2019s literature, education;<\/li><li>Activists\u2019 self-representation (autobiographies, diaries, press interviews, etc.);<\/li><li>Anti-racism and sport;<\/li><li>Anti-racism, feminism, and gender.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3>DEADLINES FOR SUBMISSIONS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Submission of abstracts<\/strong>. Participants are invited to submit a proposal (max 300 words) by&nbsp;<strong>25 February 2022<\/strong>, including a title and a short bio-bibliographical note.<\/li><li><strong>Submission of papers<\/strong>. Applicants whose abstracts are accepted for presentation need to submit full workshop papers by&nbsp;<strong>12 May 2022<\/strong>. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please send your applications to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:centrastudies@gmail.com\">centrastudies@gmail.com<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>WORKING LANGUAGES<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Italian and English<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The workshop will take place in Genoa (Italy), on 31 May&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;1 June 2022<\/strong>. Workshop attendance will be allowed only upon presentation of a valid COVID-19 \u201cGreen Pass\u201d (EU&nbsp;Digital COVID Certificate).<br>In case of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the workshop might be held online.
